Welcome

Welcome to SILKRHEINCHINS!  We are located in Loretto, PA.  We currently are striving to breed and provide the best quality chinchillas that we can.  Our breeding herd has come from some of the top breeders in the US.

A Big Thank You

We would like to express our thanks to 2 of the greatest people that we have come to know.  Jan and Rich Ryerson.  They have taken us under their wings and provided us with priceless information on chinchillas.  We met them at a show a couple of years ago, and Jan convinced us to buy a carrier so we can bring chins to the next show. Of course she insisted on a larger carrier.  From there it grew. We especially enjoy spending time out at their ranch. From feeding time to cleaning cages, its great first hand experience on a working ranch.

Our Color Class Pink White male with his son.

Our baby Deeogee with one of our Ryerson chins weighing in at 1179g.

We have made many life long friends in the chin community. Usually when we get together, we always have a great time. Going to the shows is a great way to meet people you've chatted with online. We try and make as many shows as possible to support MCBA.

Care of Chinchillas

There is alot of information regarding the feeding of chinchillas, and many breeders tend to have their own methods and opinions of what to feed and what not to feed. On thing that all breeders will agree on is that chinchillas require a very basic diet of good quality chinchilla pellets and good quality hay, and thats it!

Chinchilla pellets are considered to be the best type of food concentrate, but they must be of good quality and fed fresh, we choose to use Tradition Chinchilla pellets, otherwise the vitamin content may have expired with age.

In addition to the pellets, it is essential that a chinchilla eats a good handful of good quality of hay daily. Hay is the main source of fiber in a chinchillas diet. It should be of good quality, sweet smelling, and definitely not mouldy, damp or dusty. Out of choice, we give our chinchillas fresh Timothy/Alfalfa hay in the summer. In the winter months thye receive Timothy/Alfalfa hay cubes..

We also feed Ryerson Suppliment to all our chins each evening. We have seen a great improvement in all our chins since doing this.

I hope you enjoy our site, and feel free to email us with any questions you might have. Thank you.
